Your Stanley Cup Finals Television Schedule

Thursday, May 28, 2009

So NBC and the NHL have officially moved up the Stanley Cup Finals to this Saturday, and have released the full seven game schedule. There is a little bit of a TBD though for this Sunday, and according to Fang's Bites, it's due to Taylor Swift and the movie "The Last Templar". There is a possibility of the game being moved to Versus, but it's more than likely that NBC will bump one or both programs. Add to that the fact that NBC doesn't want Hockey running into the debut of Conan on the Tonight Show, and it's a huge cluster "f". Here's the schedule....

Saturday, May 30th- at Detroit (NBC/CBC/RDS, 8pm)
Sunday, May 31st- at Detroit (NBC/CBC/RDS, TBD)
Tuesday, June 2nd- at Pittsburgh (VERSUS/CBC/RDS, 8pm)
Thursday, June 4th- at Pittsburgh (VERSUS/CBC/RDS, 8pm)
* Saturday, June 6th- at Detroit (NBC/CBC/RDS, 8pm)
* Tuesday, June 9th- at Pittsburgh (NBC/CBC/RDS, 8pm)
* Friday, June 12th- at Detroit (NBC/CBC/RDS, 8pm)

Actually the reason for no time on Sunday is because they're waiting to find out if Lakers/Nuggets goes to Game 7 and want to schedule around it if it happens.

Yeah, if Lakers/Nuggest series goes to game 7, then the Stantley Cup Fianls game 2 would likely be played at 5 PM or 6 to avoid going head to head with the NBA game.

I really want to give the NHL some recognition on my Web site, www.midutahradio.com/sports. However, if we don't have the times for all the games, it makes little sense to place the game schedules on my site. It makes sense that they don't want to challenge the WCF, but the NHL has no leverage with NBC or anyone else. It really sucks to be Gary Bettman right now.

Are you telling me I have to choose between Taylor Swift on Dateline and a potential Game 7 in the NBA?!??! Ack...

It may be a bit of a clusterf#$K in terms of avoiding Conan's debut, yes, but hats off to the NHL for responding to the length of the conference finals and moving up the start of the Stanley Cup finals. If this were baseball, they'd wait for nine days to start as originally scheduled, on June 6. I love the idea of back-to-back games on the opening weekend. There's no reason that shouldn't be more common in hoops, hockey, and baseball, particularly if there's no travel involved.
